Education
Since 1872, the Marist Brothers have been provided education and faith formation to children and young people throughout Australia, whether through our own Order governed establishments or through administration of diocesan-owned schools. Today, there are 54 Marist schools across Australia where Marist Brothers and Lay Marists educate in the tradition of St Marcellin Champagnat
Youth Ministry
For Marist Brothers, our involvement in youth ministry is about making Jesus known and loved. We see youth ministry as a critical space in which we can engage youth and young adults, aged 15-25 years of age, inviting them to an authentic encounter with Christ and a home within the Church. Together with our Lay Marists, we accompany young people on their personal and shared journey of life and faith, helping them to discover the “Marian face” of the Church. This empowers them, as the next generation of committed Marists, to be agents of change in the world.
Youth Care and Welfare
From the earliest days of our Institute, the Marist Brothers have cared for children at risk. Since 1896, the Australian Brothers have helped young people, especially orphans and those who have experienced time in juvenile justice.
Today, Marist180 has developed into one of the largest service providers for youth at risk in Australia with programs and services specially developed to give marginalised young people the care, support and skills they need to take their rightful place in the community.
Marist180 also provides housing and support to unaccompanied minors. This group of young people are amongst the most vulnerable of asylum seekers, often suffering emotional trauma, isolation and mental illness. They all attend school whilst waiting for the outcome of their visa determination.
Solidarity and International Development
Alongside our ministries in Australia, Marist Brothers are committed to international solidarity with young people, seeking to empower them by enhancing their human dignity and developing their capacity to transform their own lives and communities. We do this principally through education projects at all levels of formal education, vocational training and community projects such as youth centres.
Australian Marist Brothers can be found working in the Pacific, Cambodia, East Timor, Italy (General Headquarters, Rome), the Philippines and Vietnam, as well as in international Marist projects, the Lavalla>200 project and many more.
Australian Marist Solidarity is the overarching brand of the international aid and volunteering offices of the Province, supporting a broad range of youth, educational and pastoral projects across 15 countries in Asia and the Pacific.
